How to Take Care of Yourself: Everyday Rituals That Turn Into Self Care Gifts

I used to think self care had to be a big thing—an entire day at the spa, a vacation, or some perfectly curated “self care Sunday” routine with candles and a bathtub full of rose petals. But lately, I’ve realized something much simpler (and honestly, more sustainable): self care can be found in the tiny moments we’re already living.

You’re probably already doing things that could be little rituals of care—things that make you feel good, calm, or grounded—if you just pause long enough to notice them.

For me, one of those moments is my morning coffee.

Once the whirlwind of getting the kids ready for school is over—snacks packed, mismatched socks accepted, and everyone out the door—I take a breath. That’s when I sit down with my coffee. I hold the mug in both hands, feel the warmth, breathe in the smell, and just be for a minute. It’s nothing fancy. But it’s mine.

That same grounding comfort is exactly why I made demulcere Serum. It smells like coffee because that scent brings me right back to those quiet moments. At the end of a long day, after dishes and homework and bedtime stories, I wash my face and rub a few drops of Serum into my skin. The simple act of massaging my face—gently, slowly—relaxes the tension I didn’t even realize I was holding. The scent, the touch, the pause… it’s a reset. A reminder that I’m still here in this body that does so much for everyone else.

That’s self care.

Another one? Walking.

I walk a lot—whether it’s heading to work, picking up the kids, or walking the dog. I used to think of it as just getting from point A to B. But now I notice how good it feels to move. To breathe fresh air. To let the sun (or the cold, honestly—it’s Canada) hit my face. Sometimes I even leave my phone in my pocket and just listen to the wind, the birds, the crunch of my boots. That’s self care too.

These little rituals are so easy to miss, especially when we’re tired or overwhelmed. But when you slow down enough to feel them, they can change your day.

Skincare has become one of my favourite ways to care for myself. Not because it’s about looking perfect, but because it’s one of the few routines that’s just for me. Touching my face with intention. Using ingredients I trust. Creating a little moment that feels soothing and grounding—even if it only lasts 30 seconds.

That’s the beauty of everyday rituals. They don’t need to cost much. You don’t need hours. You just need presence.

So if you’re wondering how to take care of self in the middle of a busy life, start with what you’re already doing. Your morning coffee. Your walk to the store. The way you rub your hands together with lotion. The three breaths you take before bed.

Self care doesn’t have to be a luxury. It can be a self care gift you give yourself, daily. (Though if you’re looking for a lovely self care gift for someone else—or a treat for your own self care Sunday—you’ll find a few favourites in my shop.)

Take care of yourself. Start small. Start now.

You deserve it. 💛
